Event Description:

🧘‍♀️ 🧘‍♂️ Five days of meditation, soulful exploration, and strong, supportive friendship: a safe space to go deeper into experience and practice.

A Meditation Home Retreat led by Dhammarati

Anapanasati simply means “mindfulness of in and out breathing.” The Anapanasati Sutta is the longest meditation instruction in the Pali canon. It’s the source text of our familiar Mindfulness of Breathing practice, and it extends the practice, using the breath as a doorway into deepening experience of the satipatthanas — body, feelings, mind, and Dhammas — taking, as Sangharakshita says , mindful positivity into the whole range of human experience.

On this meditation retreat, we’ll explore in our own experience the central sixteen verses of the sutta where the Buddha describes a practical, progressive path from first contact with the breath, to the elements of dhayana, contemplation of the laksanas, and the reflections that support the arising of awakening. In simple and accessible language, the sutta brings together samatha and vipassana practice. Despite its depth, it speaks accessibly to all levels of meditation experience and skill.

Dhammarati is a senior member of the Triratna Buddhist Order and has been studying and practicing this approach to anapanasati for over twenty years.

Like all Buddhist Centre events, this retreat is offered by donation rather than charging a compulsory ticket price. We want to do this because we never want money to be an obstacle to taking part in a supportive community, and we know many people are struggling financially. The amount we suggest reflects the huge amount of work and love that goes into putting on events we hope will benefit everyone attending. If you can, please donate today. Thank you!
