Mindful Use of Tech (Online Course)

Led By: Ananta, Todd, Moira
Monday Evenings
6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. EDT
October 16th - November 13th, 2023

Online via Zoom

Course Description:

As technology advances, it often becomes a bigger and bigger part of our everyday routines. We use it to communicate, date, even to feed ourselves. It’s transportation, entertainment, and a form of expression. Does use of tech dominate your life? Do you feel unhealthily compelled to check social media and emails? Would you like to live with more balance and boundaries in regard to your use of tech?

We’ll explore and address these questions with strategies and skills based in mindfulness. Using the framework of the four foundations of mindfulness, we’ll look at the connection with our bodies, emotions, thoughts, and our relationship to meaning and fulfillment in our lives.

Agenda:

Each week we will begin with a brief meditation, followed by a check-in. The week’s leader will discuss the material. A second small group discussion will take place, followed by reconvening with the entire class. If time permits, class will end with a short closing meditation.

About the Leaders:

Ananta has practiced within the Triratna Buddhist Community for 25 years. He has spent over three years on retreat. He was Ordained in 2007 and is a leading teacher of Triratna New York and of the Triratna US & Canada Men’s ordination training team.

He is the CEO of Karuna USA, a Buddhist-inspired international nonprofit tackling poverty and discrimination in South Asia, and formerly led global youth empowerment initiatives with the United Nations. He is a certified Mindfulness teacher with Brown University.

Moira is a longtime meditator, yogini, and practitioner in the Triratna Buddhist Community. She has led and co-led many retreats and workshops on compassion and the Buddhist path. Moira is particularly interested in building compassionate communities and helping to translate ancient practices in a way that is meaningful and accessible to anyone interested.
