The Heart that Can Hold: A Mettā Practice Day

Led By: Padmadharini
Saturday, April 25th, 2025
10 am - 1 pm

In person at New York Zendo Shobo-ji
223 East 67th Street
New York, NY 10065

Event Description:

We’d like to invite you to an in-person practice day, where we come together in community for meditation, a dharma teaching, and fellowship.

For this practice day, we’ll explore mettā (loving-kindness) as a field of containment — a way of staying present with a range of emotions without suppression, overwhelm, or self-judgment. Drawing on core Buddhist teachings, we’ll explore how experience is transformed not by changing circumstances, but by the quality of awareness that meets them. Through mindfulness and loving-kindness, we practice holding experience in a steady, non-judging way, allowing a shift from contraction toward openness and generosity.

The day will include periods of meditation, reflection, and optional small-group sharing. This is a practice-oriented session, suitable for those who want to deepen their capacity to stay embodied, responsive, and kind in the midst of emotional experience.

Join us at the New York Zendo (223 E 67th St, New York, NY 10065) for a morning of meditation, discussion, ritual, and connecting with community, followed by lunch at 1:15 p.m. @Le Botaniste UES, which serves 100% organic, plant-based food. You can find it at 833 Lexington Avenue (between 63rd & 64th St).

This event is OPEN TO ALL—all are welcome.
