Beyond Comparing: A Poetic Journey into Ratnasambhava’s Wisdom
Led By: Padmatara
Monday, February 2nd, 2026
6:30 - 8:00 pm EST

Online via Zoom

Event Description:

Join us for our monthly Sangha night community gathering with experienced Order Member Padmatara, visiting us from our San Francisco Triratna Community! Padmatara will present Beyond Comparing: A Poetic Journey into Ratnasambhava’s Wisdom. We’ll look at the wisdom of equality/sameness as an antidote to pride/conceit, with help and guidance from the poets David Whyte and Naomi Shihab Nye, among others.

Sangha Nights are a special, once-a-month opportunity for the Triratna NY-NJ community to come together for an evening of Dharma programming and companionship. We gather on Zoom for meditation, Dharma talk and input, discussion groups, and reflections — all held within the context of spiritual friendship and community.

Agenda:

  • Gathering

  • Meditation

  • Teaching

  • Discussion

  • Closing Meditation

About the Leader:

Padmatara (she/they) first joined a meditation course at the Brighton Buddhist Centre in England in 1989, during one of many attempts to give up smoking. She loved meditating right away, and her interest in Buddhist practice grew from there. In ’93 she moved to San Francisco for work and was grateful to find the SFBC. Ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2005, her name means Lotus Star (a form of Tara).

She very much enjoys teaching meditation and Buddhism, especially on retreats. She is also trained in inner relationship focusing and, recently, in qigong, both of which have had a huge impact on her practice.
