Event Description:

The Young Buddhist Initiative is a welcoming space for folks 35 and under to gather in community for an introduction to Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. 

We will explore mindfulness meditation practice and draw on examples from the Buddha’s life as inspiration for how we can grow and awaken right here and now.

All are welcome regardless of experience with Buddhism or meditation.

Agenda:

  • Welcome and introduction (how mindfulness helps with work, relationships, and stress)

  • Buddhist foundations of mindfulness (The Three Jewels, The Five Precepts, and some reflection)

  • Guided meditation

  • Break

  • Introduction to lovingkindness and emotional well-being (lovingkindness meditation, the five stages of Metta, and discussion)

  • Meditation

  • Discussion

About the Leaders:

Suryapala is an Ordained Buddhist in the Triratna Buddhist Community and has been practicing meditation regularly for six years. He began his Buddhist journey in the United Kingdom and for the last several years has been an active member of the New York/New Jersey sangha.

Lizzie Rolley has been actively training for ordination within the Triratna Buddhist Community since 2019, first through the London Buddhist Centre and now with Triratna New York. Alongside her spiritual path, she works in corporate consulting, where she focuses on ethical considerations within her industry.
